Summer Staff Positions

Please note – All summer jobs require that the employee live at camp during each camper week.   The camper days vary throughout the summer and sometimes include weekends.  Employees receive breaks during the day but are asked not to leave camp during sessions unless it is an emergency.  Please see our “Why Work at Summer Camp?” page, or contact us, if you have any questions.

There are a lot of summer positions that need to be filled at Camp Arnold this summer. While you think about applying to work with our summer ministry take time to look through this list and decide what position will best suit your specific skills and talents.  Each category contains information regarding number of positions available and starting salary.  Incentives are offered to hired staff to help us recruit!  Ask about the incentives when you are interviewed.

Timberlake Staff

Responsible for the planning, leadership, and execution of all Timberlake camp programs. You are responsible to provide encouragement and support to the staff, oversee Timberlake staff, and coordinate scheduling components with the Tahoma and Day Camp programs. This position requires that you be comfortable getting up in front of a crowd. Experience in leadership and organized camping is a must. (One position available – Salary starts at $425/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Assists Program Director with planning and scheduling of all camp programs. Leadership skills are necessary as well as the ability and creativity to initiate and execute programs. You are responsible to provide encouragement and support to the staff. This position requires that you be comfortable getting up in front of a crowd. Experience in leadership and organized camping is a must. (One position available – Salary starts at $325/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Good communication and organizational skills. Leading the Unit in which assigned, providing mentoring and support to 5 counselors and 3 counselors in training. Responsible for creating and implementing age appropriate evening programs, discipline of campers (and at time staff), and comforting homesickness. Also support and contribute to program planning as needed by the Program Director. Minimum 2 years counseling experience preferred. (Four positions available; Two male and two female – Salary starts at $325/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Provide daily care, guidance and supervision for a group of 8 – 12 campers with responsibility for their safety, health, program involvement and spiritual development. Prepare group games, elective classes and daily devotional times with the campers. Camp experience preferable. (20 positions available; 10 Male and 10 Female – Salary starts at $300/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Assist the counselor in providing daily care for 8-12 campers. This position is geared to gain experience and knowledge of all phases of counseling and camp programming. Must be willing to learn and accept responsibilities. (10 positions available; five male and five female – Salary $185/wk.  Includes room and board while working.)

Tahoma Staff (Teen Wilderness Program)

Responsible for overseeing all areas of Camp Tahoma programming including but not limited to backpacking, challenge courses, meals, daily teaching and devotions, evening programs, etc. Provide direction, supervision and leadership to the staff. Coordinate scheduling components of the daily camp schedule. Basic First Aid, CPR, WFA preferred & WA State Food Handlers Permit. Must be willing to be flexible and have a passion for wilderness camping. Previous experience in wilderness programming preferred. (One position available – Salary starts at $425/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Assist the Wilderness Director in giving supervision to programming of Camp Tahoma. Provide encouragement and support to the staff. Lead and assist all areas of Camp Tahoma programming. Experience in leadership roles with teenagers. Must be willing to be flexible and have a passion for wilderness camping. Basic First Aid, CPR & WA State Food Handlers Permit. Previous experience in wilderness programming preferred. (One position available – Salary starts at $325/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Assist the Wilderness Director by gathering supplies for activities, running behind the scenes operations, coordinating with recreation director for the implementation of activities, organizing travel and trip preparation. Gather needed food items from the kitchen and help in the preparation of the meals (Washington Food Handlers Card is required). Provide additional support in the operation of the wilderness program. (One position available – Salary starts at $300/wk.  Includes room and board while working.)

Provide daily care, guidance, spiritual development and supervision for a group of 6-8 teenagers (13 – 16 yrs) with responsibility for their safety, health and program involvement. Lead and participate in outdoor living skill activities (backpacking, challenge course, etc.) Lead cabin devotions, small group discussions, and strive to know each camper personally. Must be willing to be flexible and have a passion for wilderness camping. Basic First Aid & CPR. Must have previous experience working with teens. (Four positions available; two male and two female – Salary starts at $350/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Day Camp Staff

Responsible for the direction, leadership, and execution of all day camp programs. You are responsible to provide encouragement and support to the staff, oversee daily camper registration, and coordinate scheduling components with the main camp schedule. This position requires that you be comfortable getting up in front of a crowd. Experience in leadership in organized camping is preferred.  (One position available – Salary starts at $425/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Timberlake Residential Camp Counselors and Day Camp Counselors will be rotating over the course of the summer.  Each counselor will serve at least one week on the Day Camp staff.  Responsibilities for Day Camp Counselors are very similar to those of Timberlake counselors with the exception of not sleeping in a cabin with the campers.  (Six positions available – Salary starts at $300/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Recreation Staff

Provide and develop a safe and innovative archery program teaching campers archery skills, self-esteem and personal safety. Must have leadership ability and be a certified archery instructor or equivalent.  (One position available – Salary starts at $300/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Create a safe environment and meaningful program utilizing the challenge course elements. Must be able to guide campers through a challenge course experience focusing on trust, communication and problem solving. Must facilitate activities that help campers grow in their knowledge in self awareness, making positive choices, self-esteem cooperation and their place in God’s kingdom. Train staff assisting the program. Keep records and log books up to date. Current Basic First Aid and CPR Certification. Previous challenge course experience and documented training required.  (One position available – Salary starts at $300/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Must be creative and able to lead the craft program. Provide and develop an innovative craft program which will encourage campers to experiment and explore their own creativity. Must have patience and the ability to teach and demonstrate age appropriate crafts. (One position available – Salary starts at $300/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Must have 2 years experience guarding a pool or lakefront, 1 year managing a pool. Responsible for health and safety of both campers and staff while at the waterfront. Supervise waterfront staff. Responsibilities also include the supervision and the maintenance of the pool, boathouse and lake. It is imperative that you have knowledge in cleaning, maintaining, and treating the pool. You are responsible to plan all activities that take place at all waterfront areas. Must be Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certified or WSI certified. (One position available – Salary starts at $375/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Assist the Waterfront Director in providing creative waterfront activities. Provide constant watch and supervision of campers and staff while using the pool or lake and maintain a safe waterfront. Must be Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR certified.  (Four positions available – Salary starts at $250/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

This is a program aid position that will assist with nightwatch and late night security, requiring the applicant to be up early into the morning. Additional program duties will also be assigned as needed. (Two positions available – Salary starts at $300/wk.  Includes room and board while working.)

Support Staff

Experience or background in school or public health nursing preferred. Plan and carry out a total program of health and safety for the camp community. Guide counselors in their responsibilities for their campers health care. Administer all medications and treatments according to physician’s order and keep all records. RN and licensed to practice in Washington State. (One position available – Salary starts at $900/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Assist the Camp Nurse in planning and carrying out a total program of health and safety for the camp community. Guide counselors in their responsibilities for their campers health care. Administer all medications and treatments according to physician’s order and keep all records. Must possess an EMT or LPN or equivalent.  (One position available – Salary starts at $300/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Assist and support program staff with overall program.  Provide meaningful Christian Education programs for the campers and staff. Plan and lead chapel activities, Bible studies, assist counselors with their daily devotional time and disciple staff. Experience leading Christian Education Programs.  (One position available – Salary starts at $325/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Must be creative and have leadership ability. Assist the Christian Education Director with implementing meaningful Christian Education programs for campers and staff. Run media during worship services, and take photographs and video during camp sessions to document experiences.  Create slideshows and videos for use on camp social media.  Proof of knowledge working with sound equipment and audio/visual is necessary. (One position available – Salary starts at $300/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Direct the SEARCH Crew program, a volunteer discipleship and mentoring program for young people age 15+. Provide supervision for SEARCH Crew members, discipleship, and morning devotional times. Coordinate the use of SEARCH Crew members in the worship program with the Christian Education Director. Coordinate with other camp leadership in assigning the SEARCH Crew members to varying roles each week. (One position available – Salary starts at $375/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

SEARCH Crew is a volunteer discipleship and mentoring program for young people age 15. S.E.A.R.C.H. Crew Application

Ability to supervise others and must possess a valid driver’s license. Provide supervision and guidance to the maintenance crew – cleaning buildings, keeping grounds in order and working on special projects. Prepare daily devotions for the maintenance staff.  Be a mentor to young people just learning their work ethic.  (One position available – Salary starts at $300/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Assist in the general upkeep and maintenance of camp support.  Attend and participate in all camp programming.  Work as part of a team to maintain the buildings and the grounds.  Be willing to learn, grow and thrive – and to work hard.  Participate in daily devotions with maintenance team.  (Four positions available – Salary starts at $160/wk.  Includes room and board while working.)

This position is responsible for the upkeep of the dining hall, preparation of the dining hall prior to meals and cleaning and sanitizing after meals.  They will work as part of a team with another dining room helper and the workers in the kitchen.  Must secure a Washington Food Handlers Permit.  (One position available – Salary starts at $300/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

This position assists in the upkeep of the dining hall, preparation of the dining hall prior to meals and cleaning and sanitizing after meals.  They will work as part of a team with another dining room helper and the workers in the kitchen.  Must secure a Washington Food Handlers Permit.  (One position available – Salary starts at $180/wk.  Includes room and board while working.)

This position, as part of a three person team, will be responsible to clean all dishes and pots and pans after each meal.  Additionally, they will assist with serving food to campers when needed and helping in various ways in the kitchen.  They will work as part of a larger team that includes all kitchen and dining hall staff.  Mush have a Washington State Food Handlers card. (Three positions available – Salary starts at $180/wk.  Includes room and board while working.)

Provide nutritious meals in accordance with USDA Summer Food Service Program standards for groups of 200 or more. Provide supervision and direction in the kitchen. Assist in the management and organization of the kitchen and be able to take a lead position when necessary. Must obtain a Washington State Food Handlers Card. Institutional Cooking experience preferred.  (One position available – Salary starts at $325/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Provide nutritious meals in accordance with USDA Summer Food Service Program standards for groups of 200 or more. Assist in supervision and direction for kitchen. Must obtain a Washington State Food Handlers Card. Institutional Cooking experience preferred.  (Two positions available – Salary starts at $275/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)

Assist in the preparation and work along side the cooks to provide nutritious meals for campers and staff. Support and attend all camp programming. Must obtain a Washington Food Handlers Permit. (Two positions available – Salary starts at $180/wk.  Includes room and board while working.)

Assist the full time office staff with camper registrations, answering phone calls, and general clerical work. Assist with USDA form and data processing.  Ensure all data is handled in a timely way to support the USDA program. Give support to other program areas by inputting data, checking emails, and performing any other summer program needs.  (One position available – Salary starts at $250/wk  DOE.  Includes room and board while working.)
